These are the primary focus of our efforts. We currently provide ongoing weekly programs in 15-20 shelters and transitional facilities annually to provide our Skills For Success curriculum to thousands of women and men throughout our region annually. Our programs are rooted in the self-esteem philosophy. The “Skills for Success Program” is a psycho-educational training curriculum designed specifically to address the issues faced by individuals in transition from dependence on various forms of public assistance to viable, sustained self-sufficiency. This expanded life skills program develops basic self-esteem tools and essential personal skills such as setting and achieving goals, positive communication, effective parenting, leadership skills, learning how to work successfully with others, and sustaining accountability. The program has been carefully developed, tested, and evaluated over the 14 years that we have been offering it. The success of this program has led us to develop the “Skills for Success Facilitator Training Program” (see below) in order to train other group leaders so that it may be offered more widely throughout the Boston area and other places.
We offer Targeted Educational Programs on a fee-for-service basis. Created on the model of “Skills for Success,” these training programs can be adapted for the particular needs of different organizations. Participants include staff members of skills training and employment programs, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, human service agencies, shelters and rehabilitation facilities, and child care agencies.
Our new program “Self-Esteem Principles and Practices” and “Skills for Success Facilitator Qualification Program - Level 1” have been offered for the past two years, and a Level 2 program: “Coaching Clients to Move Forward: Why Self Esteem Matters” is a new program offering. Additionally, we have a Level 3 program “Advanced Facilitation Skills” that we will be launching this fall. The programs were created to train staff members at other agencies to integrate the self-esteem philosophy into their daily work with clients.
